This is a complex situation, to be sure. We could withdraw the aid to Egypt, and the Saudis and Qatar would more than make up for it. They both stand to lose if the Arab Spring takes hold in their countries. Then there’s the ’79 peace accords. Our participation in them is the mutual aid to both Egypt and Israel. Will the government of Egypt still feel like honoring the treaty if Israel continues to get their money bur Egypt doesn’t? I’m not convinced it was a coup because I’ve never been convinced Morsi and the MB were really in charge in the first place. The military allowed Mubarak to be leader, until he lost the support of the people. Morsi started to think he was in charge, so he had to go too. The military has always really been in control.
