I second that motion. This is not “patriotic” in any sense of the word:

April 2014: “EXPOSED: The Source Of Cliven Bundy’s Crackpot Constitutionalism”
As Promoted by Glenn Beck on Fox “News”:
“After searching for the distinctive cover of the document in Bundy’s pocket, the publisher turned out to be the innocuously named National Center for Constitutional Studies (NCCS). However, the NCCS is not the commendable educational organization it purports to be. It began life as the Freemen Institute, a vehicle for the far-right, Mormon, anti-commie, history revisionist, W. Cleon Skousen. Skousen taught that the Constitution was inspired by a God who intended America to be a Christian nation. He also professed the canon of white supremicism that Anglo-Saxons are descended from a lost tribe of Israel. The Southern Poverty Law Center chronicled the NCCS curriculum based on Skousen’s philosophy saying that he…

“…demonized the federal regulatory agencies, arguing for the abolition of everything from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to the Environmental Protection Agency. He wanted to repeal the minimum wage, smash unions, nullify anti-discrimination laws, sell off public lands and national parks, end the direct election of senators, kill the income tax and the estate tax, knock down state-level walls separating church and state, and, of course, raze the Federal Reserve System.”

“Beck’s [Tea Party, ‘Christian’] ‘historian’ [David Barton] delivered talks to racist, anti-Semitic Christian Identity groups”
[quote] ADL: “Barton has delivered his revisionist presentation in the meeting halls of the racist and anti-Semitic extreme right.”

In the 1994 book, The Religious Right: The Assault on Tolerance & Pluralism in America, the Anti-Defamation League wrote that Barton ‘purveys a slick, cut-and-paste revisionist history of the United States and the Constitution.’ ADL further stated that Barton spoke at events hosted by the Christian Identity movement, which “asserts that Jews are ‘the synagogue of Satan’; that Blacks and other people of color are subhuman; and that northern European whites and their American descendants are the ‘chosen people’ of scriptural prophesy.” [end quote] :

  2. Grant in Texas - May 12, 2014

Andy Borowitz of The New Yorker
with tongue in cheek writes: “Millions of unemployed Americans who have fruitlessly been looking for work for months are determined that Congress get to the bottom of what happened in Benghazi…” To most Republicans it seems that 13 hearings (including in the Senate), 50 briefings and more than 25,000 pages of documents were devoted to what happened that night in Benghazi. One right-wing lie (of many) is that the President didn’t react on that night even though photos exist of his meeting with cabinet members and staff. The next day Obama made reference to “terrorists” to blame during his Rose Garden speech (that tripped up Romney in the debates). Immediately after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center/Pentagon, DEMOCRATS put arms around Republicans, a PATRIOTIC act to come together in a time of adversity. In Beirut in 1983, when terrorists killed 241 American service men (plus 58 French soldiers, 6 civilians) with explosives. President Reagan did essentially nothing in response. What would the current right-wing radicals have done if instead of 4 Americans, 241 Americans had been killed in Benghazi with Obama’s response being as tepid as Reagan’s was to Beirut? Also, Democrats and Tip O’Neil didn’t attack President Reagan but laid partisanship aside and gave their support to the President and a grieving nation. Now we have Darrel Issa, Lindsey Graham, and most of the right wing politicians hating on this particular president, not to mention the conservative media led by Faux News. Worse now is the GOP raising campaign money on the back of this tragedy. From a conservative blog (yes I read both sides when it comes to politics): http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-johnson/2014/05/07/jane-mayer-tip-oneill-handled-beirut-attack-appropriately-while-issa-to

I think part of the intent with this constant invention of scandals is to create a fog of suspicion around Obama and his admin, such that, in the same way as every overview of teh Clinton Whitehouse is obliged to describe it as “scandal plagued” (David Brock, who “broke” most of those scandals is on record that most of them were either unsubstantiated rumour or baseless allegation), every overview of the Obama presidency will be obligated to describe him likewise.
